“The Blessings of Fatherhood”
The Role of The Father
The father’s role in the family flows out of his natural masculine
characteristics of authority, leadership, strength, and courage.
First and foremost, the father is to be the priest of his home, guiding his
children in the ways of the Lord. This is his primary responsibility. (Joshua
24:15)
Second, the father is to see that the physical needs of the family are met.
He should do his best to provide a comfortable, safe home, along with the
material necessities required to make the home a healthy stable environment. (I
Timothy 5:8)
Third, the father should look after the mental and emotional well being of
those entrusted by God into his care. This includes the wife as well as the
children.
In the Jewish model seen in the Old Testament, men took an active role in the
training and education of their children, especially as they grew older. Of all
the gifts fathers can give their children, the best is that of their time and
attention.
