“Binding Together in the Word of God”
II Timothy 3:15-17
The Environment of the Home
A Place of Love and Peace
The Christian home should be a place where the
fruit of the Spirit are found, of which the first three are love, joy, and
peace. The Christ-centered family manifests love for one another and the
resulting atmosphere is one of joy and peace. Parents who love their children
chasten them. Thus love and peace in the home sometimes are associated with
consistent, loving discipline.
A Place of Trust
Too many homes lack the basic element of trust,
sometimes for good reason. There is little trust if any in homes where spouses
are not able to account for time spent away from home, children who are out at
late hours doing things they should not, or parents who are not truthful with
their children. Behavior that is less than candid creates a growing sense of
insecurity for impressionable youth.
Christians should be considerate of other members
of the family and communicate honestly and frankly their whereabouts,
activities, and schedules. In a family where there is Christian care and
concern for each member, it is vital that the parents, spouses, and children be
considerate and do their part to build trust in the home.
A Place of Security
The knowledge that each member of the family
stands with the other members, all being interdependent on each other, provides
security of the heart.
A Place of Laughter
Laughing together has a way of helping each family member cope with the
pressures and stress of life and prepare them to face another day with grace and
optimism.
A Place of Worship and Guidance
The atmosphere of the home can be one where God is welcome. We should
continually live in the presence of God wherever we go, but the home should be a
special refuge where God is present. The atmosphere should be one where all
members of the family can learn Christian character. In order to enhance the
worship atmosphere of the home, the family should practice regular family
devotions. They will aid in the spiritual growth of every member of the family
and insure the success of the family.
