God Will Direct Our Paths
“A man's heart deviseth
his way: but the Lord directeth his step,” 'Proverbs 16:9. “O
Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: It is not in
man that walketh to direct his steps.” Jeremiah 10:23.
Believing that God manages our
steps in life is the key to victorious holy living. It is a matter of faith in
God. A Saint should recognize the ultimate control God holds over all creation;
however, there is a deeper and more intimate aspect of God's sovereignty.
Proverbs 3:6 speaks of the direction God gives to specific individuals who trust
him. A person may plan, scheme, and manipulate to devise the paths his life
will follow, but ultimately it is God who directs his life. How much better it
is for a person to acknowledge and embrace the sovereignty of God! He can have
a reciprocal relationship with God in which he looks to God for guidance and
places his trust and confidence in him. In return God gives that person
personal direction and purpose for his life.
Mankind always gets in trouble when he trusts in
his own knowledge and understanding, but wisdom teaches us to trust God. If we
will not lean on our own understanding, but instead will trust the Lord and
acknowledge Him in all our living, He will give us guidance for life.
As we live with humility, generosity toward others,
and submission to God, He shapes and molds our lives, blesses us, and leads us
through this life. Let us trust God to lead us to eternal life with Him by
humbly submitting to Him. To submit to God is to obey God! |
